Measuring Growth
Inside a Mentor Hut
How a circle of 8 to 10 leaders works, why it is horizontal rather than top-down, and how progress is made visible.

Most mentoring programmes pair one senior person with one junior person and hope for the best. Sometimes it works brilliantly. Often it fades after a few coffees, because the relationship depends on two calendars and two personalities lining up.
A Mentor Hut is built differently.
A circle, not a ladder
Each Hut is a curated group of 8 to 10 leaders. Seasoned executives and emerging leaders sit in the same circle, and the model is deliberately horizontal: peer-based, not a lecture from the top down. Senior members bring pattern recognition and hard-won lessons. Emerging members bring proximity to what is changing and the kind of questions that keep senior leaders honest.
Wisdom travels in both directions.
What a member commits to
- 2 to 3 hours a month for Hut meetings and community events
- Showing up prepared, with a real challenge or decision to work through
- Candour, because a circle is only as useful as it is honest
For the first few months each Hut is facilitated, so the group builds trust and a rhythm quickly. After that, Huts become self-sustaining, run by their members.
Making growth visible
The hardest part of mentoring has always been knowing whether it is working. Amano So tracks growth from day one: members set goals, check in, and build a leadership growth record over time. Progress is observed, not self-reported, so members, mentors and sponsoring organisations can all see it.
Who is in the room
Members come from the USA, Europe and the Global South, across more than 10 countries and many sectors, from global companies and international organisations to start-ups and universities. Huts meet online, and the wider community gathers in person at the IIDEAS Summit and the Speaker Series.
Joining
Membership is by application. Every application is read by a person, followed by a short conversation with the core team. Most members are matched into a Hut within about 30 days.
